Abide with us!
Abide with us!
Both of the disciples, traveling along the road to Emmaus, were deeply grieved for their Master, their Adviser, He, whom their soul had loved, had been taken from them. But as He, who they were mourning, joined them, laid out the Scriptures for them and gave them new courage, their hearts began to burn. It is therefore easy to understand that when they arrived at their destination and He made as if He would continue on, they bade Him: "Abide with us, for it is toward evening.“
Are the people today that walk through life without Christ, not also unhappy. Their outer joyfulness is passing and then only an emptiness and continuous sadness remains.
But with the person who has Jesus as a constant companion, it is a completely different case. Whatever he does not understand in life, he can bring to Jesus. Jesus will solve the riddles for him and whisper to him: "Be not afraid, simply trust in Me. I will safely guide you.“
If he is lonely, he clings tightly to Jesus until all loneliness has disappeared and he continues on his way strengthened and comforted. If he is misunderstood, he tells his Friend who so richly blesses him with mercy and love towards his fellow man, that he can nevertheless smile. If he is faced with hardship, he turns to his Lord in child-like faith and prays: "Give us this day our daily bread.“
Jesus is never far away and hears his pleas and meets all needs. If he is faced with illness, he can turn to Jesus for he knows that everything the Master allows will work together for his good. If death comes and tears a beloved person from his side, he finds comfort in God and is never disappointed for He is the God of Comfort.
Oh, how many blessings does the person who does not have Jesus in his life miss! He is ready to comfort them; He would gladly help, but they do not let Him in. He must stand outside. But Jesus will gladly help them carry their burdens, grant them comfort and peace in all of life’s situations. He has never hesitated to enter if one sincerely asks Him to.
Dear friend, if you have accepted Christ, you do not need to be afraid, for nothing can harm you. He will not turn from you as long as you stay near Him and obey Him. He gladly listens when we speak with Him and bid Him: "Lord, abide with us!“ Wherever Jesus is, is pure light. Wherever He is not, it not only turns to evening, but to darkest night.
A.K.
