The Preacher and the Prayer Warrior

A preacher who was gifted at speaking drew large crowds together and won many souls for Christ. Unfortunately, this made his heart proud. Yet God knew how to humble him. He dreamed that the day of judgment had come and he drew near to the throne of God with great confidence. To his surprise, however, he was directed to take the lowest place.

“Certainly,” he called out, “I must deserve greater honor than this! Weren’t there many souls saved through my sermons?“ –

“No,” answered the Judge, “The honor does not go to you; did you forget that old lady who always came to your church? She could not see for she was blind; she could not hear for she was deaf. But she loved God’s house and she faithfully sat in her humble place and prayed that God would strengthen the word that was brought. It was not your preaching that saved all these souls, it was her prayers.”
